FOOTBALL: SPRINGHEAD produced a poor home display as they slipped to their first defeat of the FBT Manchester League Premier Division season, 2-1 against Elton Vale.
The hosts found themselves a goal down after only four minutes. But the response was good, with the equaliser following after 15 minutes as Hanson’s short corner to Paul Stevenson saw him turn his marker superbly before firing home.
The rest of the game saw no real fluidity from either side, although Vale’s effort and work-rate saw them hold out for a deserved victory.
Elsewhere in the top flight, it was derby day at Royton Town, where visitors Avro returned home with a satisfying 2-1
In Division One, another derby clash saw Hollinwood held to a 1-1 draw at home by Uppermill.
DIGGLE stormed to a 6-1 win at Netherton in Division One of the Huddersfield League.
Heyside lost 3-2 at Meltham Athletic in Division Two, while there was derby delight for 3D Dynamos in Division Four who triumphed 3-0 at Uppermill.
IT looks like being another tight race for the Lancashire and Cheshire League Premier Division title.
Champions Whalley Range are setting the pace following a 5-2 derby win at South Manchester, while Rochdalians posted an impressive 5-1 win over high-flying AFC Oldham to move into third spot.
FAILSWORTH Dynamos suffered a stunning 6-1 home defeat against Prestwich in the Lancashire Amateur League Premier Division.
Games were tighter in Division One, with Oldham Hulmeians edging out Rossendale 1-0 at home and Chaddertonians drawing 0-0 when hosting Bolton Wyresdale.
