MAN OF ACTION: James Baron scored runs, took wickets and claimed a sparkling catch for Uppermill last weekend.
CRICKET: ANY slip-ups could prove costly as the Saddleworth and District Cricket League title race nears its conclusion.
Glodwick are in the box seat with a 21-point lead, but with two tough games to come against Droylsden and Moorside, they aren’t home yet.
Nigel Stock’s men also face basement boys South West Manchester - tomorrow - in the three-match run-in.
Saddleworth’s remaining games are against Shaw, Uppermill and Micklehurst.
Uppermill are chasing a top-five finish, which will bring qualification for next season’s LCB Cup.
They all but put an end to Moorside’s hopes of title glory last Sunday so are a team in good form.
Uppermill recovered from 93 for five to post 200 for nine, with James Baron and Alex Griffiths adding 44 for the sixth wicket and last pair Matt Taylor and Andy Jones putting on a vital 39.
Baron also did his bit in the field, clinging on to a fine catch to get rid of Moorside dangerman Grant Hodnett, then claiming four for 40.
Saddleworth won the reverse meeting in June, and skipper Brian Lord will ensure his side stay on their toes as they try to keep Glodwick in their sights.
Uppermill’s defeat of Moorside has given Stayley a sniff of a third-place finish.
The Millbrook club should be too good for Hollinwood and South West Manchester this weekend.
WOODHOUSES could still finish in fourth place in the Greene King Lancashire County League.
’Houses, in sixth, head to rock-bottom Stretford tomorrow and then mid-table Roe Green 24 hours later. Both games start at 12.30pm.
