RU men kick off league campaign in style

ST EDWARD’S OB 6, OLDHAM RUFC 31
OLDHAM began their North Lancashire Division One campaign with a comfortable victory over a Merseyside outfit that has had difficulty fielding a full team.
But such was the effort of St Edward’s that Oldham couldn’t afford to take anything for granted. The visitors took the lead in the third minute but then had to wait until the 22nd minute to extend their lead.
A couple of penalty kicks either side of half-time gave St Edward’s hope, but when Tom Hannon forced his way over and Meagram latched on to McEwan’s kick before converting his own try, Oldham were back in control.
Victory was made a formality when Horsfall touched down and Meagram converted again.
Man of the match for Oldham was Nick Hackman, while Ryan North and Roscoe – both returning after season-long breaks – tackled themselves to a standstill.
