FOOTBALL: SPRINGHEAD are up and running in the FBT Manchester League Premier Division thanks to a 3-1 triumph at East Manchester.
The first half was a scrappy affair, but ’Head took the lead after half-an-hour when Paul Stevenson rifled home a free-kick. The lead lasted less than a minute, but ’Head scored again on half-time.
The visitors’ afternoon become more difficult after 55 minutes when skipper Hinchcliffe was dismissed for a two-footed lunge on an East player. But the home advantage was barely noticed as ’Head made it 3-1 after 70 minutes.
Elsewhere in the top flight, Royton Town also enjoyed a terrific 3-1 victory at Prestwich Heys.
Avro, however, went down 2-1 at home against AFC Monton.
In Division One, Jordan Stepien and Joel Longmore were on target for Uppermill in a 3-2 home defeat against Irlam Steel. But there was better news for Chadderton’s second string, who beat Leigh Athletic 7-3, and Hollinwood, who thumped Wigan Robin Park 6-3.
Avro reserves won their Division Two derby, 2-1 at Springhead.
