Bulldogs bag tough test

RUGBY: HOLDERS Rochdale Mayfield have been drawn away to Fitton Hill Bulldogs in round one of the 2015 Standard Challenge Cup.
Beaten finalists Oldham St Anne’s face a home tie against Higginshaw, while Saddleworth Rangers host Waterhead in an all-National Conference League encounter.
The other game pits Hollinwood against Folly Lane at Fields New Road.
Fixtures will be played on dates agreed by both clubs.
The Oldham Amateur League has presented its annual awards. Peter Townsend, secretary of Saddleworth Rangers, received the Bernard Flanagan Trophy for his support to the league and outstanding contribution to his club.
Oldham St Anne’s won the Billy Webb club of the year gong, while Hollinwood’s Fred Halliwell was named the “unsung hero”.
Young player of the year was Adam Davies of Waterhead under-18s, while Kevin Platt, a former league chairman and treasurer, was awarded life membership.
