Ashton’s cup of triumph

GOLF: DUKINFIELD suffered a double defeat during the club’s big weekend.
First they lost at the semi-final stage of the Dunham Forest Trophy - 4-3 to Bramhall.
Then 24 hours later the club was beaten 3-2 by Ashton in the Oldham and District Golf League ‘A’ Division play-off final at Werneth.
Earlier, Mike Kelly and Martin Wild (5 & 4), and Steve McGee and captain Andy Lomas (4 & 3) claimed wins for Ashton, while Lee Merson and Darren Burgess (19th) and Martin Schofield and captain Gary Beresford (4 & 2) were successful for Dukinfield.
THE league’s end-of-season tournament and presentation will be at Denton on Sunday, October 5.
Draw for pairings will be released on the league’s ODGL website.
THE ‘B’ League play-off final will be played at Saddleworth on Sunday, October 12 (noon) when Blackley take on North Manchester.
PAUL Aspinall won the Dunkerley Cup at Oldham with rounds of 63 and 68 for 131 and a one-shot
victory over Steve Mills.
JANE Antrobus of Oldham won the Oldham Ladies’ Golf Association’s annual past-captains’ competition held over 10 holes at Brookdale.
Jane scored 21 Stableford points to edge out Saddleworth’s Hazel Rogerson (20).
The honours in the putting competition
went to Crompton and Royton’s Lynn Truelove, ahead of Oldham’s Mary Buckley.
