RUGBY:
HOLLINWOOD, who could gather only 14 players, showed plenty of determination in a 19-10 loss at Guiseley in Division Five of the Pennine League.
The Fields New Road outfit got off to a stunning start, with Pete Davies sprinting 75 metres to score in the corner.
Paul and Mark Johnson led for Hollinwood with several powerful charges, backed-up by Liam Parker and Pete Jackson. Despite going close to extending their advantage, they found themselves 6-4 behind at half-time.
The second period was cut and thrust. Guiseley pulled further ahead with another converted try, only for the visitors to hit back through Parker’s effort close to the sticks. Gorey kicked the goal.
A third try for Guiseley saw them go six points clear.
Hollinwood thought they had gone over for a third time, but the referee chalked off the score for a forward pass. Guiseley scored a drop goal and penalty to seal victory.
Hollinwood entertain Hanging Heaton on Saturday.
