RUGBY:
HIGGINSHAW continued preparations for the new North-West Counties League season with a 28-24 defeat at St Helens side Clock Face.
Trailing 16-0 after 25 minutes, Higgy got on the scoresheet through Paul Turner, with Martyn Swaine adding the conversion.
The visitors cut the deficit to four points just after the break. Joe Boniface made a telling break and off-loaded to Jordan Hanley, who scored under the posts. Swaine kicked the goal.
Turner then capitalised on fine work from Hayden Jones and with Swaine adding the extras, Higgy were in front.
Clock Face responded with a converted try in the 73rd minute, and immediately went in for a fifth time, again goaled, for a 28-18 lead.
Jewitt dived over for Higgy for a Swaine-converted try with two minutes left. Pushing hard to win, they got within five metres of the Clock Face line when the referee blew for full-time.
