HOCKEY: OLDHAM firsts left it late to secure a gutsy 2-2 draw at Didsbury Northern in North Hockey Women’s League Division Two South-West.
Trailing 2-0 with 15 minutes to go, they hit back to equalise and now sit third in the table on five points.
Oldham showed early promise, with some great passing and one-touch hockey ensuring a frenetic start to the game.
Didsbury Northern took the lead against the run of play. Oldham continued to press, only to find the Didsbury Northern ’keeper in inspired form.
The visitors forced multiple penalty corners, but couldn’t find a way through and conceded a second goal after losing possession on their own 25-yard line.
The second half was all Oldham, but again they were thwarted by the Didsbury Northern ’keeper.
Simpson then made an outstanding point-blank save with the goal at Didsbury’s mercy to keep her side in the game. Oldham captain Lees then urged on her troops and they responded in style.
