GM Cup cruise as Tonge sweep aside final rivals

BOWLS:
TONGE won the Greater Manchester Cup with a 160-133 final victory over Dukinfield Central at the Legh Arms, Sale.
Having overcome Springbank by just four chalks in the semi-finals, Tonge saw off Dukinfield in emphatic style by 27 chalks.
In the other semi-final, Dukinfield beat Hopwood by nine chalks.
Tonge’s Gary Ellis has won the George Masters at Warley in the Midlands for the fifth time.
He landed the £1,000 top prize with a 31-26 defeat of Craig Barker in the final.
Ellis defeated old rival Simon Coupe 31-23 in the semi-finals and, apart from winning the event on five occasions, has been beaten in the final twice and reached the last four once in nine attempts.
SADDLEWORTH Bowling League’s presentation night will be held at Lees and Hey Conservative Club on Friday. Tickets cost £2 and are available on the door.
