Relief as Hollinwood take first win

HOLLINWOOD picked up their first win of the 2014-15 Pennine League season with hard fought 34-20 victory over Moorends Marauders.
The hosts made a lightning-fast start to the Division Five clash at Fields New Road. Andy Gorey, Andy Blair and Kieran Bowers went in for early tries — Bowers’ effort his first for the club — and with Gorey adding two conversions, the lead was 16-0.
Second-bottom Marauders refused to throw in the towel and before the break hit back with two touch downs, both converted.
Hollinwood reasserted their authority thanks to Matty McCullough’s try and a Gorey conversion.
Back came Marauders, who added a third score. But Hollinwood wouldn’t be denied. Gorey dived in again for his second try of the afternoon then completing his hat-trick after gathering a super kick from man-of-the-match Pete Davies.
Marauders pulled back another try but Hollinwood was already well in control.
Hollinwood, now fifth in the table, go to Brighouse Rangers ‘A’ on Saturday.
