Dallimore shows class against Higgy

RUGBY:
HIGGINSHAW lost 50-12 at reigning North-West Counties League champions Wigan St Cuthbert’s.
Both sides produced a good display of open rugby in a game that was in the balance at half-time.
The defence was tested early on as St Cuthbert’s, featuring former Oldham RL player Jamie Dallimore, piled on the pressure.
The Wiganers took control with tries from Dave Smith and Jacob Clarke in the opening 15 minutes. Dallimore converted one.
Higgy hit back when Jack Hughes and Paul Turner linked up to send in Jordan Hanley from 30 yards. Nathan Jewitt converted for a half-time score of 14-6.
But St Cuthbert’s emerged with all guns blazing to register three converted tries — Dallimore adding the extras to efforts from Joey Brady (two) and himself — to take a firm grip on proceedings.
Higgy were next on the scoresheet, with Chris Yarwood’s barnstorming run creating space for Jewitt to go in after 58 minutes. Man-of-the-match Jewitt converted.
Hopes of a late comeback were dashed as St Cuthbert’s added four more tries.
