GOOD TO BE BACK: Ronnie Heffron last fought in July when he lost a British title eliminator.
Boxing:
RONNIE Heffron is counting down his return to the ring — and is determined to storm his way back up the British rankings.
The 24-year-old Oldham light-middleweight star has been out since July when he suffered a stunning second defeat of a 17-fight professional career against unbeaten prospect Liam Williams in the sixth of a scheduled 10-round British title eliminator.
He will make his comeback at Oldham Sports Centre on December 13. Heffron, currently training hard with trainer Kelvin Travis said: “I feel so much better after taking a break. I needed it. I never stopped training, but I feel I’ve benefited from being out of the boxing environment for a while.
“It’ll be great to get back in action in my home town. Hopefully I’ll get good support on December 13 and I can get back on track. I need to get a win or two under my belt again.”
Should Heffron — still 10th in the British rankings — win on December 13, he is likely to feature in a London bill in February.
Tickets for the Oldham show – priced from £30 – are available from Ronnie’s dad, Tommy, by ringing 07916 253129.
Also likely to feature on the Sports Centre bill is Ashton favourite Jon Kays, currently working his way back up the rankings following an unsuccessful British title tilt.
Super-featherweight Kays (31) has fought once since that blow, outpointing journeyman Ibrar Riyaz at the Victoria Warehouse in Trafford Park last month.
‘2-Smokes’ is hugely popular in Oldham, having topped the bill at the Sports Centre previously when winning, and subsequently defending, his English title last year.
Oldham-based Perry King also looks set to feature in what would be his professional debut.
TICKETS for Andy Kremner’s third professional bout at the Bowlers Exhibition Centre in Trafford Park on Friday, November 28, are now available, priced at £35 (general entry) and £60 (ringside).
