BEATEN by bottom-of-the-table Wilmslow seven days earlier, Oldham firsts quickly got the result out of their system with a terrific 4-0 win at Prescot.

The visitors tore into their rivals from the start, and a goal from Lisa Staniland wasn’t long in coming.

Oldham didn’t give Prescot a moment’s peace, with Rachael Johnson’s pile-driver cross — neatly deflected home by Karen Rowley — instigating Oldham’s second goal.

Although ’keeper Sarah Simpson was largely redundant in the opening period, she had to be alert to prevent Prescot converting their only chance of the half.

Oldham underlined their superiority with a third goal — Fran Barlow applying the finishing touch — before the break.

The Merseysiders were better in the second half, but the damage had already been done.
