Hollinwood’s desperate ring-round

HOLLINWOOD hit a new low before their Pennine League Division Five encounter against early title hopefuls Ovenden.

Just half-an-hour before kick-off at Fields New Road and with the visitors warming-up, the home side had only 10 players.

Desperate phone calls managed to raise five more players, and those who turned out did the club proud in a 40-10 defeat.

Hollinwood were excellent in the first half, with the outstanding Pete Davies scoring the first try.

Paul Johnson also went in, with his effort goaled by another man in form, Andy Gorey. But Ovenden held sway at half-time, leading 18-10.

The second period saw the young and fit Halifax side dominate the game.

Several Hollinwood players ran themselves into the ground but their effort was ultimately in vain.
