Mossley fortunes on the wane

INCONSISTENT Mossley are losing their way after slipping to a fourth defeat.

Following an encouraging October with five wins in a row, fortunes seem to be taking a dive.

Their latest Evo-Stik League Division One fixture ended in a 3-2 home defeat against mid-table Brighouse Town - by which Mossley dropped to 10th place in the table.

The hosts were up against it at half-time as Ernest Boafo and Ryan Hall had fired Brighouse into a 2-0 lead.

Brian Matthews gave the Lilywhites hope as he pulled a goal back just two minutes after the restart, but Boafo’s second goal with 14 minutes remaining sealed victory for the West Yorkshire outfit.

Substitute Dougie Carroll scored from the spot in the 88th minute to make it 3-2, but Mossley left themselves with too little time to carve out an equaliser.

Mossley's next fixture is an away league clash at Prescot Cables on Saturday.

CHADDERTON and Oldham Boro both secured confidence-boosting away wins in the North-West Counties League First Division.

Chaddy’s was the more emphatic as they cantered to a 6-1 success at Wigan Robin Park. Registering in the visitors’ best victory for some time were Matty Russell, Daniel Murray (two), Dillan O’Connor and James Curley (two) — and that was after Daryl Patton had given the hosts an early lead.

Boro were in action in Wigan as they came from 2-1 down to beat Ashton Town 3-2.

Adam Owens, Lee Bancroft and Sheldon Young were on the mark for Boro, who have now secured back-to-back victories for the first time this season.

Chaddy return to action with an FA Carlsberg Vase trip to AFC Darwen on Saturday, while Boro host Atherton LR in the league.
