A MERGER between the Lake Garage Central Lancashire League and the Lancashire League has moved a step closer.
Lancashire League clubs discussed the possibility of a joint venture and have agreed to further talks with the CLL in January.
Meanwhile the CLL will continue to attend meetings to discuss the pyramid system, which would be headed by an elite league of clubs.
Top CLL officials will report back on both possible ventures to members, who will ultimately decide the way forward.
The CLL chairman Neville Fletcher said: “Three of our officials will be meeting with three from their league to explore the possibility of merging.
“CLL clubs were unanimous in backing the move and their league was very close to the same situation.”
Mr Fletcher said the CLL would continue to be involved in discussions about the Greater Manchester proposals.
