ALAN Wright’s 42-season stint as CLL secretary or assistant secretary officially ended at the league’s annual meeting.
Mr Wright (80) handed the secretary’s reins to retiring president Tom Williams, who was in turn replaced by David Shepherd.
Mr Wright will continue to act as league treasurer and received a glowing tribute from Neville Fletcher after he was re-elected chairman and umpires’ secretary.
Mr Fletcher said: “His incredible dedication to the CLL borders on almost unique. We owe Alan an awful lot.” Mr Wright received a standing ovation from delegates.
Other officials to be elected were deputy chairman Colin Jackson, registrations secretary David Whiteman, junior secretary Nigel Tench, auditor Derek Ashford and fixtures secretary Peter Long.
CLUBS infringed less in 2014 than they did 12 months ago, but that was a sweet and sour state of affairs for the league. Fines went down from £2,215 to £1,175, which left the league with an £826 deficit this year.
BAMFORD Fieldhouse, formerly of the Saddleworth League, will field three junior teams in the CLL next summer after being given approval by delegates. Oldham will be entering teams at under-15 and under-18 level.
