Heyside’s revenge

FOOTBALL: HEYSIDE exacted sweet revenge on the only side to have beaten them so far this season in Huddersfield League Division Two.
Playing host to Meltham Athletic, Heyside produced some fantastic football on the way to a convincing 4-1 victory.
The first goal came in the 15th minute after an early spell of sustained pressure. Daniel Dunn delivered a corner into the head of Jordan Aird, who powered home his seventh goal of the season.
The second came 10 minutes later when defender Josh Briddon was crudely fouled in the penalty box. James Leonard stepped up and made no mistake from the spot.
The third goal arrived just short of the hour mark, and it was that man Leonard again.
A great through ball from captain and man of the match Reece Hursthouse helped Leonard register his 19th goal.
Five minutes later it was full-back Danny Cashin’s turn to hit the back of the net for the first time this season. Following a neat one-two with Leonard, Cashin collected the ball and drilled home.
Heyside conceded a late consolation goal, but it failed to dampen manager Geoff Howard’s spirits.
He said: “It was another good performance from the boys. We owed Meltham one after our only defeat there earlier in the season. We were just too good for them.”
Tomorrow sees first take on second in the table as Heyside travel to unbeaten leaders Skelmanthorpe United.
