BRAVE Mossley suffered an agonising 2-1 defeat at Scarborough Athletic in the Evo-Stik League Division One North.

It was looking like the Lilywhites would hang on for a precious point at the division’s high-fliers, only for Matt Plummer to strike the winning goal for the East Coast outfit six minutes into stoppage-time.

Gary Bradshaw opened the scoring for Athletic on the hour mark, but Tom Pratt evened things up eight minutes later.

A hugely creditable 1-1 outcome was on the cards for the visitors, but Plummer pounced in the dying seconds.

Mossley, who slipped a place to 11th in the table, return to action on Boxing Day when they travel to High Peak neighbours New Mills.

CHADDERTON’S run of four straight wins in the North-West Counties League First Division was checked as they were held to a 2-2 draw at home by Litherland REMYCA.

James Curley fired Chaddy in front after five minutes, but Craig Blackwell soon levelled for Litherland.

Callum Webb then scored in the 71st minute to hand the visitors a 2-1 lead.

However, free-scoring midfielder Matty Russell saved Chaddy again as he made it 2-2 from the penalty sport with just six minutes left to play.

OLDHAM BORO’S woes continued with a 6-1 home thumping by Hanley Town.

Josh Hall scored a hat-trick for Hanley.

Boro, who remain firmly anchored at the bottom of the First Division table, will try their best to arrest their recent slump next time out in the local derby match at Chadderton on Saturday.
