ROYTON-based Martin Taylor, of Halifax Matrix, is enjoying a hot streak.

He won the Mirfield Wednesday open on the Mirfield Canal, with seven perch on chopped worm at 11 metres for 10lb 4oz.

Chris Lees also included several big perch in his 7lb runner-up catch.

Taylor continued his good run by netting first place in the TH open match on the bungalows length of the Rochdale Canal.

Operating bread punch at five and 11 metres, he caught skimmers early on and the added roach in the five-hour event to weigh in 4lb 2oz.

John Edwards is regularly in the money in this type of event, and continued his stunning run with a second-best 4lb catch which included some skimmers and plenty of small roach on bread short and long.

That relegated organiser Tony Horton into third place, with his 3lb 5oz net falling to bread and caster, as did Andy Dawson’s fourth-placed effort of 3lb 4oz.

GRAHAM Mitchell claimed top honours in the penultimate winter league match on a blustery Tanners Dam.

Drawn on peg six, the Gilders rod opted for maggot short at three and eight metres for gudgeon and roach in a match-winning net of 9lb 7oz.

League leader Dave Machin was the runner-up thanks to an 8lb 8oz catch of skimmers and roach, which fell to the pole and pellet.

Andrew Mitchell, also of Gilders, was third, with his single carp and ide enticed by maggot on the tip for 4lb 11oz, in a match where bites were hard to come by in the first couple of hours.

With just one round of matches to go, Machin has an unbeatable lead with 12 points. He is followed by father and son, Graham and Andrew Mitchell, with 24 and 25 points respectively.
