THIS was a must-win game for Oldham’s second string and they proved equal to the task thanks to an emphatic display.
Fellow strugglers Chorley never registered a point as Cam Wood produced a number of crunching tackles.
At the other end, Oldham were irresistible, scoring tries at regular intervals.
Rhys Jones got the ball rolling and there were other first-half scores from Josh Watson, Rob Froggatt, Max Horsfall and Eddie Klieve.
The second half began with a reshuffle as Froggatt volunteered to play for Chorley due to a number of injuries leaving the visitors short of players.
But despite the changes, Oldham remained dominant with Watson crossing the line three more times, Kris Latvia registering his first try for the club, and Horsfall, Will Mellor and Ryan Pickles also going over.
And the final play of the game saw a length-of-the field try when a break by Mellor, who was supported by Klieve and Jason Green, set up Adam Waterhouse to go over.
Many players were contenders for man-of-the-match, including full-back Carl Molloy, but the award went to Wood for his tireless efforts in attack and defence.
