Failsworth’s national junior ABA champion Danny Wright fought for the first time as a senior at the Royal Oak Club in Buxton, beating Connor Parker over three gruelling rounds.

Head coach Lancaster said: “Danny took on a really tough opponent. Parker is a former two-time national champion, but Danny boxed well throughout and gained a split-decision victory. It was a cracking fight.”

Oldham-based Joe Eko won impressively at the Gladiators Gym in Huddersfield. The 21 year old gained a unanimous points victory in the 69kg class against homester Marvin Ibru, whose record prior to the bout was eight wins and one defeat. Eko’s amateur record now reads 11 wins from 13 fights.

“Joe’s really coming on,” added Lancaster. “He works hard and that was rewarded.”
