Waterhead name check

RUGBY: CRIES of “come on you Warriors” will ring out around Peach Road this season.

Waterhead have added to their title, and chairman Mick Slicker senior hopes the new name will give the club a boost.

“We considered several options — Raiders, Storm and Titans were all mentioned — but we plumped for Warriors and everyone was in agreement.

“The shirts in the traditional colours of red, black and green will still have the old club crest on display, along with the new logo. These will be worn by the juniors through to the open age.

“It’s part of what we are trying to do at the club, bringing in fresh ideas.”

Waterhead’s plan is to make themselves a hub for the community: “We feel it’s important to get the community involved,” said Slicker.

“The club is shut during the week. Perhaps we could open it up for people to drop in for a brew and a chat. That’s one way of attracting interest in the club.”
