ANGLING: JOHN Mellor topped the weights in the third and final round of the Todmorden AS Teams of Three League staged on Croft Fishery and the Rochdale Canal.
His two carp on the tip and some silvers on pole and caster saw him finish with 16lb 15oz. Steve Hall was next with similar tactics netting him 16lb 8oz.
KEN Power (Tri-Cast Highfield) went back to Old Hough for the open match fished on Upper and Lower Benbo Lakes, and was glad he did after taking a magnificent 73lb 15oz.
Again it was dobbed bread fished at 14 and 16 metres that did the trick as he caught mirrors and common carp to beat Matthew Roberts into second. He netted 52lb 6oz.
Roberts fished corn over micros at 11 metres for mostly f1s.
DAVE Wells (Tri-Cast Rochdale) added to recent wins in the Shipley Open match on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, with bread punch and caster fished short and long netting him a super 13lb 10oz of roach. Nigel Storr (Halifax Matrix) took second with his 8lb 3oz net also including some decent roach taken on bread punch and caster.
DARREN Bladen took first place in the latest of the TH Open matches on the Boat and Horses length of the Rochdale Canal. His 2lb 10oz catch included one or two better roach taken on bread punch. John Edwards was second on the next peg and again it was bread punch that caught 1lb 10oz of roach.
ICE forced Tuesday’s Old Hough Farm Open match to be switched to a rover on all of the fisheries’ lakes.
Phil Cliff took first on Prospect with dobbed bread accounting for his 38lb 13oz of carp, followed by Kevin Twigg (Edgeley Sports), with identical tactics tempting 34lb 3oz of carp.
JOHN Harman won the Slaithwaite Pairs League match fished on the Mirfield Canal, with just eight perch taken on worm for 9lb 4oz. He beat another Slaithwaite angler, Andy Turner, into second place as he took 6lb 2oz of roach and perch. Top pair, and now leading the league, were John Harman and Paul McMillan.
THE Shropshire Union Canal fished reasonably well for the Cheshire Teams of Four Winter League, with Jeff Shaw taking top spot with 12lb 14oz. He beat Gordon Roberts into second, with his 9lb 2oz helping the Guinness team to first on the day.
