FULLY FOCUSED . . . Ronnie Heffron is relishing the prospect of his fight at the end of this month.
BOXING: RONNIE Heffron is fighting fit again and desperate to get back in the ring at the end of the month
A shot at the vacant English light-middleweight title beckons for Heffron if he impresses in taking care of business in Preston on February 28.
“I need to get my name back in the mix,” added the Oldham star. “It’s about working my way back up the British rankings and making sure 2015 is a big year for me. I certainly want to have quite a few more fights under my belt by the end of this year.”
Oldham’s former ABA king Heffron (24) was due to return to action as the headline feature at Oldham Sports Centre in December, but sickness before the fight forced him to call off the bout
Heffron said: “I’m feeling 100 per cent better now, and training is going well. I’m still disappointed with myself for taking the Liam Williams fight in July. I wasn’t well in the run-up and shouldn’t have gone in there with such a dangerous opponent.
“I learned from that and that’s why I pulled out of the Oldham show when I wasn’t feeling well. I won’t be making that mistake again.”
Heffron made a good impression last week when drafted in to spar with Birmingham favourite Brian Rose.
Tickets for the Preston Guild Hall show are available from Tommy Heffron on 07916 253129.
