Good show in vain

RUGBY: HOLLINWOOD gave as good as they got against Folly Lane in round one of the Oldham Amateur League’s Standard Cup, before losing 38-8.

Lane, a well-drilled outfit from Division One of the North-West Men’s League, were soon on the scoreboard at Fields New Road. But Hollinwood stormed back when Matty McCullough applied the finishing touch to a good passing move. Andy Gorey missed the goal attempt.

Despite some belligerent defending, Lane had piled up 22 points by half time to virtually seal their passage into the next round.

Hollinwood scored the try of the tie, though. After working through to the last tackle, Gorey put up a perfectly-placed kick towards the try-line, where marauding winger Ben Edge collected the ball and touched down.

RUGBY: WATERHEAD ARLFC are raising money to build a new all-purpose gym at their Peach Road ground.

Officials are hoping that work will be completed before the end of the year.

The cost of the new facility has been put at around £25,000, and to help fund it Waterhead have launched a buy-a-brick campaign.
