Hollinwood narrow gap in race for second spot

TABLE TENNIS:
IT was tight for second place in Division Two of the Oldham and District Table Tennis League before the latest round of matches — and it is now even closer after Hollinwood ‘B’ beat Unison ‘A’ 6-4.
Every player contributed, but it was the two wins courtesy of Joe Redikin and Peadar McKinstry, along with the doubles, which swung it in their side’s favour.
This all means that Unison are now just one point above third-placed Hollinwood.
Uppermill ‘A’, the leaders, despatched basement club Hollinwood C 9-1. Paul Hutchinson overcame Mark Simpson for the consolation point.
In Division One, Glodwick ‘B’ posted two 7-3 victories, firstly against Hollinwood ‘A’, and more significantly against their ‘A’ team to go 18 points clear at the top of the table.
They have played a game more than their rivals, but will take some catching. James Chappell was unbeaten in both matches.
Honeywell ‘A’ and Birley Moss fought out a 5-5 draw, with the former’s Darryl Meredith losing his first game of the season to Miles Benjamin. Surprisingly, it was Benjamin’s only win of the evening.
