ANGLING: THE most recent TH open match was fished on an ice-covered length of the Rochdale canal behind Morrisons in Chadderton.
The fishing wasn’t great and once again the cold weather shoaled up the fish, which meant only two anglers had a catch. Winner was Tony Price (Tricast Rochdale) with his bread punch fished at seven metres accounting for 156 tiny roach which together weighed 1lb 6oz 8drams.
NEIL Burrows (Slaithwaite) continued his excellent form with a win in the Slaithwaite AS pairs match on the Mirfield Canal. Burrows fished worm and caster to catch some good perch for a total of 5lb 13oz.
Tim Noon (Slaithwaite) also got among the canal’s perch population and again it was worm and caster which did the damage as he weighed in a section-second 4lb 11oz.
Another Slaithwaite man, Martin Blagborough had a nice net of fish, taking second place in the match and winning his section with 5lb 5oz of bread punch-taken roach..
WEIGHTS are starting to drop on the Mirfield Canal, but Neil Burland (Tricast Calder) was in fine form as he won the Wednesday open for the third time. Perch taken on chopped worm and caster made up his 5lb 1oz catch.
MATTHEW Roberts (Matrix) took first place in the latest Old Hough Farm Fishery open match on an iced-up venue which made it an all-pole match. He fished corn across to net himself 31lb 12oz of newly-stocked f1s. Phil Cliff snr was second on the day with pole and pellet over accounting for 28lb 1oz catch of f1s.
PARTRIDGE Lakes are fishing well and the open match was won by Gary Mannion with 64lb of f1s and small carp. Oldham angler Pete Humphries was second with 52lb 12oz of f1s and small carp, beating John Howarth into third with 45lb 10oz.
Sunday’s match on Partridge again saw good weights with winner Dave Rigby snaring a level 41lb of f1 hybrids. Second was Chadderton’s Alan Dawson Rochdale Angling) with 34lb 13oz of f1s.
