FOOTBALL: OLDHAM Sunday League big guns Limeside King George and Rifle ‘A’ clashed in the Manchester County FA Shield semi-final, and the latter prevailed 5-1 following another titanic tussle.
Ryan Fagan was again the man-of-the-match for Rifle, as his hat-trick went a long way towards firing his side into the final. Ryan Hobin and Nathan Eastmond also scored, while Liam Cashmore replied for King George.
Rifle will now face Manchester Sunday League outfit Moss Side in the final after they saw off last year’s winners Charlestown CYC 3-0 earlier in the day.
In the league challenge cup third round, Heyside eased to a 3-0 win against Coppice United as Rick Ollerton (two) and Danny O’Connell were on target.
Royton Athletic edged to a thrilling 5-4 victory against Rifle ‘B’ in the David Giblin Division One.
Danny Hitchens (two), Curtis Flowers, Mitchell Boswell and Jamie Clarke scored for Athletic, while Jacob Davies (two), Niall Standring and Nathan Barker struck for Rifle.
Jonny Lambert (two) and Ryan Hurst registered for FC Failsworth in a 3-1 win against Chaddy Cot.
