MIchael Wild: fluent play
SNOOKER: MOORSIDE’S Michael Wild reached the quarter-finals of the Manchester Snooker Open with a 4-1 defeat of Oldham’s Josh Cooper.
Wild was in fluent form, compiling breaks of 108 and 66, and will take on Steve Groves in the last eight at the Moor Club, Stockport, next Wednesday (8pm).
Failsworth’s Dean Sheridan, the defending champion, and Gary Lees are also through, Sheridan beating Mark Carrington 4-0 and Lees overcoming Jimmy O’Shea 4-3.
Sheridan now meets Tara Leisure’s Mick Dickenson, who defeated Clive Garlick 4-2. Lees takes on Danny Thomas.
A BREAK of 33 from A Hussain gave Three Cs ‘A’ a final-frame victory and completed a 5-1 win at High Crompton in the Oldham Amateur Snooker League.
Meanwhile, the top-of-the-table clash between North Chadderton ‘A’ and the same club’s ‘B’ team saw the former claim bragging rights with a 4-2 win which gave them a 10-point cushion at the top of the table with only six fixtures remaining.
CRICKET are in clear second place in the Saw-Tech Shaw Snooker League following a 5-1 victory over Queen Street. But they remain well adrift of runaway leaders Tara ‘B’, who need only to avoid a run of disastrous results to clinch the title.
