Gorey, Gorey hallelujah

RUGBY:
WHAT a difference a week makes.
Seven days after conceding 60 points, Hollinwood returned to Pennine League Division Five action with a full contingent of players and were rewarded with a 30-18 win against Brighouse Rangers ‘A’.
It was terrific effort by the Fields New Road club, who initially fell behind to a converted try.
A Niall Wallace score and Andy Gorey goal levelled things up, before Hollinwood nosed in front. Jack Mayall touched down and Gorey added the extras.
But parity was restored before the break as the visitors from West Yorkshire notched a converted try.
The second half was virtually all Hollinwood, though, as first Chris Brown raced in for a try close to the posts, which Gorey goaled.
That man Gorey had a superb game, displaying his complete repertoire of skills throughout the 80 minutes. Brighouse were unable to get a hold of him as he dictated play.
If the club, and it’s a big ‘if’, were able to turn out this team every week, they would be pushing up much higher in the table.
Hollinwood face a tricky test on Saturday — at leaders Ovenden — before they wrap up their season with a home game against Guiseley Rangers.
