RUGBY:

ALL three local National Conference League sides have yet to get off the mark so far — but Oldham St Anne’s might just be the side to manage it.

That is because of the two teams in action tomorrow, Mick Fogerty’s men are on home soil at Higginshaw Road.

In their first Division Two outing of the new season, St Anne’s went down to a 34-8 defeat at Askam.

Lawrence Girvan and Niall Collins grabbed tries for the visitors, who succumbed to a number of injuries during the game.

Stanley Rangers are tomorrow’s visitors, having started their campaign with a 36-18 home win over Castleford Panthers.

In Division Three, Waterhead Warriors are again on the road, licking their wounds from last week’s 36-16 loss at Woolston Rovers.

Mick Slicker jnr’s side can’t afford to start as slowly at Stanningley as they did last time out.

A poor opening saw Woolston establish a 20-0 lead and two tries and a pair of goals by Jamie Mayall and a Ryan Ganley score weren’t enough to tip the game their way.

Stanningley got off to a winning start, picking up two points thanks to a 16-10 victory at Wibsey Warriors.

Saddleworth Rangers are not in action, due to scheduled opponents Normanton Knights’ continued involvement in the Challenge Cup.
