ANGLING:
THE Medlock Bridge AC open match on the Park Lake was hard going due to the freezing conditions, but winner Joe Rowan had a good day as he tipped three chub and three f1s on to the scales.
Rowan netted the three chub on the pole and maggot, switching to the tip and maggot for the three f1s which altogether weighed 11lb 6oz.
There was a drop to second with the previous week’s winner John Lees (Gilders) netting a perch and bream taken late on the tip and maggot and weighing in at 2lb 13oz.
Organiser Darren Webb and Simon Cook tied for third, with both putting a bream apiece on the scales for 2lb.
CHRIS Oliver smashed the opposition in the latest of the Todmorden AS members matches fished on Townhouse and Croft.
Fishing the pellet feeder, Oliver caught some decent carp which together tipped the scales to a
fantastic 71lb.
Weights dropped after that, but were still good as regular money winner Pete Mottram took second with the tip and corn netting him 28lb 8oz of carp.
Graham Mallinson was just a fish or two away as he weighed in 22lb 3oz of carp that also fell to tip tactics.
KEN Power (Tri-Cast Highfield) took first place in the Northern AA open match on the Macclesfield Canal.
He made the long walk worthwhile as he netted five perch for 6lb 9oz.
Oldham angler Derek Bowers (Drennan North-West) was second with 4lb 8oz of small fish and perch, beating Vaz Byfield into third with his two perch weighing 4lb 7oz.
PETE Johnson took first place in the Old Hough open match with 55lb 6oz of f1s which fell to maggot fished at 11 metres.
He was followed by Ian Cox with 80 small stockies taken on caster at 12 metres.
Kevin Twigg was next with 34lb 12oz of better-stamp carp taken on pellet fished close in, beating Ken Power (Tri-Cast Highfield) into third as he landed 27lb 11oz of small carp taken on corn fished tight over.
THE Old Bank open match on the Mirfield Canal was won by Royton angler Martin Taylor (Matrix Halifax).
His 5lb 8oz net fell to bread and caster fished down the track and across to a boat catching a
mostly-roach net, but including one or two perch.
I managed second with over 100 tiny roach on bread punch at six metres, bumping my weight up with roach on maggot at 11 metres to weigh in 4lb 2oz.
Third was Richard Jackson (Matrix Halifax), with several lost perch costing him dear as he weighed in 3lb 15oz of roach from one ounce to six ounces.
THE last of the Twingates AC winter series on the club water threw up some good weights, with winner Steve Baines (Tight Lines, Shaw) getting amongst the ide and skimmers with maggot fished over groundbait at 10 metres weighing in 19lb 4oz.
Tony Simcock (Tight Lines) was second with 14lb 6oz of carp, ide and skimmers that also fell to maggot.
ERIC Green (Matrix Halifax) took first place in the Matrix Halifax Pairs League on the Hebden Bridge lengths of the Rochdale Canal.
Sticking to just one line at nine metres with bread punch paid off as he netted three bream and a small roach for 5lb 8oz, beating his pairs partner Stuart Campbell (Matrix Halifax) into second with 4lb 2oz.
EDDIE Battersby took first place in the latest Partridge Lakes open match with pellet and maggot
taking 32lb 6oz of f1s and carp.
He easily beat Baz Whittle into second with a similar net weighing 24lb 6oz.
WILL all Saddleworth and District anglers note that there has been a mistake made in the
membership book regarding the match scheduled for April 2 on Eagle Mill Dam.
The match is actually taking place on Sunday, April 12.
Draw time is 8.30am and the match will be fished from 9.30am to 2.30pm.
