THE proposed structure for a Greater Manchester Premier League system would feature 12 teams per division, headed by an elite section, with promotion and relegation.
The GM Steering Group has also revealed how clubs could fit into the competition’s structure.
Clubs joping for elite status will be subject to a five-stage test, with marks out of 10 in each category.
The criteria take into account things such as past league and Lancashire Knock-out Trophy performance, playing surfaces, player and spectator facilities and an overall score assessed by managements that would reflect umpire reports, fixture fulfilment and junior section strength.
Under the elite division, the GM Steering Group has suggested two feeder sections, followed by groups of teams placed together in geographical areas. Promotion would be subject to clubs meeting the criteria required for the division above.
While the top flight would be covered by ECB Premier League standards, the criteria for the sections below would be less stringent. Similar geographical zoning will be applied to the second and third XI divisions.
It also is the intention to circulate sponsorship income via interest free loans, giving clubs the opportunity to rise through the divisions by improving facilities.
A full league prospectus will be unveiled at Emirates Old Trafford on April 30.
Martin Kay, chairman of the GM Steering Group, said: “The structure gives exciting changes players are looking for. Promotion and relegation ensures the season won’t be over when June is out.”
