GOLF: WERNETH pulled off a rare away win in the Manchester Alliance foursomes with a 4-3 success at Tunshill.
Jonathan Wilde rolled in the winning putt to clinch a last-green win with partner Dave Whittingham after earlier successes from club captain John Suttie and Nigel Wareing, Kevin Roberts and Mike Cocker and John Barlow and Derek Ashford.
The club’s elite side suffered extra-holes agony in the Dunham Forest Trophy at home to Wychwood Park when Adam Rowbotham lost on the tough 20th to a birdie three.
That made it 4-3, with Werneth wins coming from Mark Abbott (19th), Michael Farrimond (3 & 2) and Paul Rowbotham (3 & 2).
The club’s captain’s drive-in was washed out and is being replayed this weekend.
ASHTON hosted the Benchmark Building Supplies glow in the dark event, a Stableford competition over five holes, finishing on the 18th.
Fairways were lit like runways, while flags, greens, tees, bunkers and hazards were also lit up.
A total of 14 teams helped to raise £590 for Tameside 4 Good and the winning line-up was Steve McGee, Amy McGee, Martin Wild and Gareth White with 19 points. Individual winner was Mike Lynch (Fairfield) with nine points.
