Angling: KEVIN Marler didn’t let gale-force winds bother him at Blundells Fishery.
The Tight Lines, Shaw, rod plundered the nearside margins with pellet and maggot for a match-winning net of 114lb 11oz of carp, tench and f1s. Second-placed Martin Stokes relied on the method feeder cast to the island from his peg on Trio Lake as he bagged up 108lb 5oz of f1s.
PETE Cuniffe won the latest of the Twingates AC OAPs matches on the club water. Using hemp and caster, he tempted a mainly silver fish bag of 13lb 2oz. Regular winner Dave Wolstenhome had to settle for second place, with pole and maggot hookbaits tempting 10lb 7oz of mostly silvers.
BEN Summerscales topped a closely-fought Todmorden AS members match on Croft Fishery.
Using the pole, tip and pellet attack, he enticed 27lb 5oz of carp. Runner-up Danny Keegan got stuck into the venue’s carp, with pole and tip working well for his 26lb 5oz catch.
LONG pole and maggot saw Billy Brierley claim first place in the latest of the Medlock Bridge AC Saturday open matches on the Park Lake. He lured one chub and six f1s which together weighed in at a creditable 13lb. Bob Harrison (Team HB) was next-best with pole, pellet and maggot netting 6lb 13oz of f1s and skimmers.
DAVE Machin, of Stalybridge Angling Supplies, beat the competition in the Old Hough open on Boulders and Goose lakes. Using the pole and pellet approach, he tempted 30lb of f1s and carp. Tim Greenwood was second with 28lb.
THE last match in the Matrix Halifax pairs series was again affected by strong winds and freezing rain — but Rochdale-based Frank Szakaley wasn’t too downbeat.
Representing Matrix Halifax, he topped the weights with two skimmers taken on chopped worm down the track on the Moderna length for 3lb 9oz. John Meredith’s (Tri-Cast Rochdale) had a single bream on bread punch for 3lb 2oz.
The winning pair on the day were Szakaley and Simon Walton with three points, followed by Jason Irving and Mick Shaw on four.
Daz Kershaw and Richard Jackson (Matrix Halifax) took the overall title with 31 points. Szakaley and Walton were second on 37 points.
SPRINGHEAD angler Steve Rogowski has written a book which chronicles his quest for a 30lb pike.
“The Incompleat Angler” is available soon from the Little Egret Press, Amazon and any good book store.
