Heyside move closer to promotion

LEADERS Heyside virtually guaranteed promotion from Division Two of the Huddersfield and District League with a 4-0 win over lowly Slaithwaite United.

With only one more point needed from their remaining four games and only two rivals capable of catching them, Heyside’s mission to reach the top flight is almost complete.

The hosts kicked off at a furious pace, and Michael Ward should have done better than blazing over from six yards. James Leonard made no mistake soon after, though, converting a Daniel Dunn cross.

The visitors found themselves 2-0 down after 25 minutes when Gary Molyneaux’s pass picked out Dunn, who beat the ’keeper at his near post.

Heyside threatened to run riot as Ward, Leonard and Molyneaux all went close. They got their third goal two minutes after the restart — Leonard again on the mark to make it 32 for the season — and then Ward made up for his earlier miss when slotting home from inside the penalty area.
