TABLE TENNIS:
BURGEONING talent from the Oldham and District Table Tennis League was on show when Unison ‘E’ took on Uppermill ‘D’ in the Division Five Handicap final at Honeywell Lane.
And it was the former who came out on top, picking up 173 points in a comfortable 72-point margin of victory.
Josh Hudson (+66) Sophie Newton (+56) and Alex Darlington (+38) were in sparkling form for Unison, who retained the trophy. Jack Dunning provided sound resistance, while Will Leslie and Ollie Keane also showed up well.
Unison’s chances of securing second place in the table rest on Hollinwood ‘F’, who need to win their final match 6-4 or better to claim the runners-up spot.
Meanwhile, Hollinwood ‘G’ had mixed fortunes. They beat Pollards ‘D’ 7-3, but went down 6-4 to Owls ‘B’.
Champions Pollards ‘C’ completed their campaign with a 9-1 success over Honeywell ‘G’.
In Division One, both Werneth ‘A’ and Rosehill suffered 9-1 defeats in their final matches, against the ‘A’ teams of Saddleworth and Honeywell respectively. They finished in the two relegation places as a result. Mike Pellowe (Werneth) and Andy Perry (Rosehill) won their consolation singles.
Saddleworth ‘A’ recorded an 8-2 win over Honeywell ‘C’, for whom Lukasz Maciejewski had two good victories.
