Angling: WEIGHTS in the Monarch AC matches on the club water have been nothing short of incredible lately, and this continued in the latest competition won by Neil Hardy.

His bronze maggot fished up in the water approach caught him an impressive 42lb 10oz of silvers.

Dave Ireland was second with a similar net with 27lb 4oz.

BRIAN Meadows topped the latest of the TH Open matches on the Boat and Horses length of the Rochdale Canal. Bread punch fished at four and nine metres caught him plenty of small roach that together weighed in at 3lb 14oz. That beat travelling partner John Edwards into second place, his net of small roach weighing 3lb 12oz.

SATURDAY’S Medlock Bridge AC Open match on the Park Lake was badly affected by bank walkers, but Simon Cook wasn’t complaining as he topped the weights with 6lb 12oz of skimmers and f1s.

That was just a fish too good for second-placed Peter Hill, with his net of silvers and f1s also falling to the same methods and weighing 6lb 7oz.

MICK Diskin took first place in the latest of the Twingates AC OAPs matches on the club water, with pole and maggot tempting 13lb 8oz of silvers and odd small carp. That was well in front of Rod Illing’s second-best 5lb 9oz catch of silvers that also fell to the pole and maggot.

SATURDAY’S Old Hough Farm Open match was so well attended that all four lakes had to be used.

Winner on Lower Benbo was Howard Parker with his 66lb 8oz made up of f1s that fell to pellet at 14 metres. Peter Mulheir was second and again it was a peg on Lower Benbo that produced 53lb of f1s.
