CRICKET: DELPH sneaked into the next stage of the Heavy Woollen Cup after edging Slaithwaite out of the competition on a bowl-out yesterday.
Bad light proved a problem for the two sides after Slaithwaite had scored 187. Newly-appointed Delph skipper Arron Lilley took five wickets for 28 runs.
In reply Delph could reach only 142 for seven from 39 overs following two bad light stoppages.
Bowlers Lilley and Greg Buckley held their nerve to secure a 2-1 win for Delph.
On Saturday, Delph opened their Drakes Huddersfield League Premiership campaign with a 23-run defeat at Scholes. The hosts batted first and scored 178 all out, but Delph could only muster 155 in reply.
