CRICKET PREVIEW: THE loss of five players hit Uppermill hard in the build up to the new SWB Commercials Saddleworth and District Cricket League season.

But skipper Michael Brooks can take heart from their opening-day performance.

Uppermill, who visit champions Glodwick tomorrow, reduced title-hopefuls Stayley to 75 for six, new signing Jonathan Lees taking three of the wickets to fall for 11 runs in five overs.

Though eventually losing by 47 runs, it was still a noteworthy effort from the Leefields lads.

Meanwhile Greenfield, who visit Moorside, have been dealt a blow after professional Tanishe Panyangara was called up by Zimbabwe to play against Pakistan early next month.

The Greenfield club don’t know when he will be available, which means they can bring in a deputy provided they receive clearance from the league.
