League to create morning division
Date published: 24 April 2015
FOOTBALL: THE Midas Plumbing and Heating Oldham Sunday League is hoping to trial morning football from next season after 48 years of predominantly Sunday afternoon action.
The OSL committee is concerned at the number of games forfeited in the past couple of seasons and at teams quitting because their players prefer to watch live football on satellite TV. The local league will continue to offer its traditional Sunday afternoon fixtures.
The new competition will be named Division ‘A’ and all games will kick off at 11.30am. As well as a divisional shield competition, clubs will be included in the President’s Trophy, Challenge Cup and Supplementary Cup alongside the afternoon rivals.
The team drawn at home would take priority over the kick-off time.
If existing teams are interested in switching they should contact secretary Val Broadbent for an application form for 2015-2016.
