BOXING:
OLDHAM boxers Danny Wright and Jack Rafferty both missed out on ABA Elite finals glory at the Liverpool Echo Arena.
Failsworth-based Wright (18) lost in the 64kg category semi-finals to Hoddesden’s Alfie Price.
This was after he had secured a terrific result in the quarter-finals, when beating number three seed Jacob Gabriel (Basingstoke) by a second-round technical knock-out.
Wright said: “I’m gutted, but I guess beating the number three senior in England in my first year isn’t too bad. I’ve just got to keep positive and keep building.”
Shaw-based Northside ABC ace Rafferty (19) lost a unanimous decision to Birtley’s Cyrus Pattinson in the 69kg category quarter-finals.
