Rangers eye trophy upset

RUGBY: LEAGUE games take a back seat tomorrow as the spotlight falls on round one of the Conference Challenge Trophy.
Of the borough’s three local teams only Saddleworth Rangers are in action — they welcome Rochdale Mayfield to Shaw Hall Bank Road — and coach Craig Farrimond sees no reason why his men can’t inflict an upset (2.30pm kick-off).
Mayfield are going along nicely in the Premier Division, while Rangers are languishing at the foot of Division One with no wins in six matches.
The two sides met in the Standard Cup final on Good Friday when player-coach Matt Calland’s five-try show clinched a 36-16 success for Mayfield.
