RECORD . . . Jessica Fullalove.
Swimming:
OLDHAM’S talented young swim starlet Jessica Fullalove was in superb form as she won two of the British team’s three medals at the prestigious Japan Open.
Competing at the plush Tatsumi Pool in Tokyo, Royton-based City of Manchester prospect Fullalove (18) roared to victory in the 100m backstroke in a new personal-best time of one minute, 0.31 seconds, and then backed up her effort with a bronze medal in the 50m backstroke.
GB team-mate Sarah Vasey took gold in the 50m breaststroke in a personal-best time of 30.83 seconds.
Fullalove, who competed at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games last summer and is hoping to make the GB team for the Rio Olympics next year, could scarcely conceal her delight after triumphing in the 100m final.
She tweeted: “GOLD & PB tonight at the Japanese open! buzzzzzin.”
The seven-strong squad of swimmers were in Tokyo as British Swimming continues a development project in the Far East aimed at enhancing medal prospects at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
