THERE was a photo finish in the first major of the season for women at Werneth.
Lady vice-captain Tracey Rowbotham and Marian Pickford tied with 33 Stableford points in the Marie Hufton Salver. This meant an 18-hole play-off to determine the overall winner - and victory went to Rowbotham.
In the sweeps, Christine Moon won Division One (32pts), from Sheila Antrobus (31pts). Division Two honours went to Dee Whittingham (32pts), followed by Kathleen Lomas (30pts).
Rowbotham made it a Werneth double by winning the medal competition. It was another close call as she won on a card play-off from Kathleen Lomas and Barbara Whiting after all three recorded nett scores of 76.
Second sweeps went Moon, Madge Griffiths and Whittingham with nett totals of 77.
At CROMPTON and ROYTON, Gwyneth Littlewood and Jennifer Kenworthy won the Coronation Foursomes (Stableford) thanks to a 32-point haul.
