HEYSIDE’S Lake Garage CLL fortunes have taken a significant turn for the better — and skipper Ryan Barnes is delighted.
A sweet league derby victory against Oldham eased the Little Hey Street outfit into the top half of the Championship table ahead of this weekend’s all knock-out fixtures, while Barnes’ men also got off the mark in the Twenty20 competition as they sunk Middleton.
Barnes said: “We had been struggling to be honest, so the back-to-back wins have given everyone a real confidence boost. We needed to get back on track, and thankfully during the two games last weekend everything seemed to go to plan. We’re flying again now.”
South African pro Shadley Van Schalkwyk certainly appears to be back in business following a shaky start to the season.
In the games against Oldham and Middleton, he plundered 150 runs and took a stack of wickets.
“Shadley’s a class act,” added Barnes. “He had also been disappointed with his own performances. He had got out cheaply a couple of times. But he showed what he’s all about last weekend and we’re all happy for him.”
