CRICKET: SUNDAY brings the JW Lees Wood Cup back into focus in the Central Lancashire League.
And the undoubted local tie of the first round sees Simon Wright’s Crompton — unbeaten so far in the Championship — host mid-table Premier Division neighbours Royton.
Crompton are going great guns and will hope to claim a notable scalp, especially on their home patch at Glebe Street. Royton are also doing well in the top flight; last weekend’s win lifted them to fourth.
Rashid Hussain’s Oldham look set for a tough game at Norden, while Heyside host in-form Monton and Weaste.
The battle for league points takes a back seat this weekend as progress in the knock-out competitions will be at the forefront of all players’ minds.
Tomorrow sees the big-hitters take centre stage in the latest round of games in the Twenty20 tournament. Werneth will hope to shake off the disappointment of last weekend’s loss to Elton when they return to action with a Group ‘A’ trip to Radcliffe.
Buoyed by an impressive win against Middleton, CLL new boys Heyside host Milnrow in Group ‘B’, while in Group ‘C’, Oldham travel to Rochdale and Royton host Unsworth.
