GLODWICK won't give up their SWB Commercials Saddleworth and District Cricket League crown without a fight.
After an inauspicious start to the season, Franco Lenhardt's side has put together a run of five wins in the league. Add Tanner Cup and LCB Cup victories, and Glodwick are showing the kind of form that brought them a first Saddleworth League title in 2014.
The Warren Lane club did well to play at all yesterday, as the reverse Whit derby matches were hit hard by the weather. Out of the 10 games, five were called off after morning rain and Wythenshawe conceded against Whalley Range because they couldn’t raise a team.
Glodwick's home match against Shaw was reduced to 25 overs per side, with the latter managing 138 for nine. The win lifted Glodwick to fourth in the table, five points behind Moorside and Greenfield in joint second, and 40 adrift of leaders Saddleworth with two matches in hand.
